For Indigenous peoples, the Canada/US border is a liminal space, bound by historical events, affiliation, pursuit & capture. In times of battle with US troops, Native Americans would cross the 49th parallel, where they could not be followed. Known as the Medicine Line, this magical space offered protection and freedom.
